What do millennials want #4

Millennials want freedom within a frame work. They’re fed up of the rigid corporate structure and environments that many organisations still rely on, now they’re driving for freedom within a structured organisation.

Millennials have a true entrepreneurial mind-set; they like flexibility, independence and are determined to pursue their passions. This means that within this framework there needs to be freedom to roam and grow. To second this: 66% of millennials want to be entrepreneurs (Bentley University, 2016). This trend has led to more frequent job mobility until a satisfactory environment is achieved to meet the needs of the millennial. From the same report, 79% reported that their employer encouraged creativity (impressive!) and 78% reported they’re loyal to their company because of this (hint).

My advice to assist you: is create a hackathon competition/events to drive creativity within tasks to see what ideas and initiatives can be created within your suggested framework. This will drive confidence, stronger relationships and better communication between employees as well as management.

5 ways of turning your vision into reality

A dream is a wish; a vision is the looking. In other words, a vision is more believable, intentional and structured in assisting us to reach our goals. When building our vision, we must initially know where we want to go – this is the first stage of the formula of success. The formula to success becomes easier when its broken down into steps, then when these are pieced together you have a plan of action to follow. Like anything, once you complete the first step, the second, the third, the next steps come naturally and effortlessly.

Here are 5 ways to help you achieve your vision:

1. Own your vision
If you’re going to be successful – you must first have a vision. This vision must be the thing you want to achieve and you must be able to visualise yourself reaching success. Visualisation is a technique in creating what you want from life using the power of imagination. I always use the Jim Carrey success story, for many years he would drive down Mulholland Drive to see the big houses and the entire city of LA to visualise what his life could be like if he could reach his dream of being a global actor. Carrey’s vision gave him the goals to empower his career. You must visualise it, believe it and breath it to be successful.

2. Make you unstoppable
To make you unstoppable you must build your mind-set. The mind is the most powerful tool you possess and can be your biggest strength or weakness depending on how you use it. The first aspect is to realise the only thing holding you back is your ego – the ego is that inner voice you hear saying you can’t do it. If you’re to be successful, you must quieten that voice and encourage it to pass on thoughts to your human part of the brain. The only way to control your mind is to set it free and using this technique will help you be unstoppable.

Please re-read it, and it could be combined with a feeling that you’re feeling more calm, relaxed and at peace.

Please keep re-reading the line, focusing your awareness on each word, letter and space when re-reading it. Now you should notice that you’re breathing more slowly and your heart rate has slowed as you deepen your feelings of peace and experience. This is called Mind Choice by David Taylor.

3. Be clear about what you want
To be clear about your vision, you must set goals to encourage you to go out and achieve them. There are four ways of assisting you with this one. Firstly, make the goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time based), this will ensure that you create goals that can be achieved by a set-time, while ensuring it is realistic to your current lifestyle. Next, prioritise the goals. This will ensure that you understand the importance of each one and the order in which they happen, as affects the outcome. Once goals have been set and prioritised, you must set key milestones in order to increase your confidence along the long path once you achieve each one. It will also help with dealing with failures as if you do fail at any time, you will be able to see where you have been successful and why. Finally, you must monitor your progress as this relates to your goals being measurable – the more you can measure the better. Monitoring progress will help reach the milestones and take the steps on the roadmap to reaching your goals.

4. Build a Roadmap
You must build the path to get to your empire. Building a roadmap will give your vision, your mind and goals direction and allow them to happen. When building a road map, you must ensure it is done through small steps, encouraging flexibility and an open mind to obstacles, distractions and hurdles that will arise. My biggest tip is map out key milestones to ensure you keep focused to the next checkpoint. If you take small steps and map out milestones you will always be able to take steps back if failure hits. Obstacles and failures are inevitable if your mid set see’s them in that way, programme your mind to see them as a learning curve – just remember to keep going towards your end vision, because like maps of the world there’s more than one way of getting to your destination.

5. Opportunities don’t happen, you create them.
Action is everything in your life. Many have grown up with everything handed to them on a plate, when in fact now you’re are an adult the only way of survival is to act. When I was in a leadership role at 21, people often said I was lucky to have got that job but what they didn’t see was everything I done to get that job. Firstly, the people that said that – I can guarantee I outworked them. I worked harder in terms of output, time and consistency as nothing would stop me reaching my goal. I made sacrifices I often missed nights out with friends and cut back the amount of hours I slept to ensure I had every opportunity of being successful. Finally, I was prepared to fail – failure has never frightened me because I know where I want to be. By understanding this you instantly realise that where you are now is not where you want to be and by following all five steps it can be achieved. In summary, everything I have done has been intentional and structured to reach my vision. That job was part of my roadmap – if you want further motivation to do the same, say this famous Tony Gaskins quote “If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs”.

5 Tips for Greater Self-Confidence

Self-Confidence is a state that separates the average from the great. Most of us, at some time, will have struggled with the belief that we can achieve our goals. It’s always important to remember that even the greatest leaders, athletes and celebrities suffer with a lack of confidence. Whether it’s in your work, in your sport or in your relationship – you’re not alone and you will only grow if you’re are the best version of YOU.

A lack of confidence can result from a negative mind-set, a poor relationship or when we have failed at something we were desperate to be successful in. Anxiety and confidence are mental partners that can seriously affect our mental state and performance if we let them.

Here’s five tips to create a greater self-confidence:

1. Act like Success
This isn’t about ego – act like a success is simple, it is about acting how you would like to be seen. To achieve this, using visualisation as a technique is recommended. Visualisation is the ability to look ahead and see yourself being successful. The best example is Jim Carrey, who for many years, would drive down Mulholland Drive to see the big houses and the entire city of LA to visualise what his life could be like. Jim had a more powerful tool, as while sitting there looking at the city below, he wrote himself a check for $10 million, dated it Thanksgiving 1995, added the notation “for acting services rendered,” and carried it in his wallet from that day forth. When you believe something to be true, you see the world in that way.

2. Say goodbye to negative thoughts & people
Positive energy leads to positive outcomes. This means you need to firstly set your mind to see the positive in situations, this itself can create a massive, fast and lasting change. The mind will always attempt to cause doubts and negative thoughts, but dealing with this ego is something you will have to go through if you do not have positive energy from the outset. You can do this by beating your ego: firstly, by the next time you hear negativity in your head, switch it to a positive affirmation and keep it going till you push past the anxiety. Secondly, by putting enthusiasm into your interactions with others and what you do. You must stop focusing on the problems and instead focus on the solutions and the benefits in every situation.

3. Strengthen your mind-set
There are three easy and great ways to strengthen your mind-set: exercise, meditate and be happy. Exercise will increase health, strength and confidence while also decreasing stress and anxiety.
Meditation is a method used to clear away negative feelings and stress to restore your sense of balance. For meditation I recommend using the app ‘Head Space’ via your smartphone. Happiness is key and it lies within you. It was there on the day you were born, at every single moment, and is within you right now. So you can stop looking outside yourself for happiness.

4. Generate Performance Accomplishments
When you have goals, that are SMART specific, it motivates you to achieve your steps to your dream. When you achieve each goal that is what gives you the self-confidence to push on to the next. The best example that I have seen of this is something called ‘3 by 5’. This technique ensures each day we have three targets, that are SMART and are aligned with our project, and must be achieved by the end of the working day. If you are not gaining confidence from this technique, I recommend you add rewards for when you achieve the goals. This is called celebration as it will motivate you further and give you confidence by intrinsic rewards.

5. When I believe, I will see
I’ll let you re-read that and yes you read right. You will not achieve anything unless you believe you can do it first. This belief will give you the confidence you require to achieve your dreams. How do you begin to believe? You must find examples of people that achieved something and use that to build your belief – this will give you the confidence, as you see it is possible for others to achieve what you are working every day for.

Self-Confidence is the most attractive quality a person can have. How can anyone see how great you are if you can’t see yourself?
